Choosing a Spring Break Hotel in Cancún

December 19, 2018

With spring break season right around the corner, one of the most stressful things is simply settling on a destination. You can enjoy hundreds of bright and sunny beaches all over the world. So why choose Cancún for your spring break?

Enjoy Cancún, Mexico

One of the biggest reasons that Cancún is an amazing spring break destination is the wide variety of things to do and see. It’s one of the only places in the world that truly has something for everyone – an important attribute when traveling with a group of people who might have different interests or preferences.

Located on the Yucatán Peninsula, Cancún has its tourists in mind with these amenities:

  • World-class, pristine, white-sand beaches
  • Affordable luxurious resorts and hotels
  • Exciting nightlife
  • Great restaurants
  • Fun attractions

Cancún Really Does Have It All

Cancún has hundreds of attractions and tourist sites. Cancún is mainly a tourist destination, so it rings in at a more affordable price than many other tropical spring break destinations.

How Do You Choose a Hotel in Cancún For Spring Break?

The first decision you’ll have to make when picking a hotel in Cancún is whether or not you want your experience to be all-inclusive. With an all-inclusive hotel or resort, all of your food and drinks are included in the cost of your reservation.

You can head down to the restaurant at your all-inclusive hotel and enjoy three meals a day – all covered by your reservation. You also have access to unlimited free drinks (such as bottles of water) that you can take with you to the beach or around town without having to worry about paying inflated prices.

Once you’ve made that decision (all-inclusive or not), the next step in the hotel process will be looking around for important features such as location, crime rates in the area, money exchanges, security boxes, and other resources we’ll be talking about later.

Safety – Hotels in Cancún

Cancún has hundreds of attractions and tourist sites. Cancún is mainly a tourist destination, so it rings in at a more affordable price than many other tropical spring break destinations.

While Cancún is a seemingly perfect option for spring break, there are also valid concerns about safety while traveling. However, if you are properly prepared and make sure to choose the right hotel when booking your trip, you can rest easy.

Choosing your hotel is one of the most important choices you’ll make when planning your trip to Cancún. A hotel can make or break your experience during any trip, but especially to somewhere like Cancún where safety should be your top priority. Put your mind at ease by picking a safe and central location for your hotel or resort – an essential characteristic when choosing a place to stay for spring break.

Check into the local crime rates around your hotel and in the area to make sure they are as low as possible. Generally, it is a good idea to stick close to the tourist areas. Many hotels and resorts have their own security guards  – key factors in picking a safe environment to enjoy your trip. While hotel security precautions are extremely important, there are other factors you will want to check out as well.

Cancún’s Transportation Choices

Does your hotel offer a shuttle to and from the airport? A service like this can really decrease your stress at the start and end of your trip. Renting a car is a good option in Cancún too; however, you’ll see the public transportation system is extremely affordable and accessible, making the need for a car few and far between.

Bus service is available around the clock, and with the cost of about 1/7 the price of a Starbucks’ latte, you’ll have the freedom to experience local life: Cancún style.

Be Prepared to Have Fun in Cancún

  • If you missed your chance at the airport, make sure that your hotel or resort offers a money-exchange service. If you run out of local currency (pesos), you have easy access to services where you can exchange your U.S. dollars for pesos. If your hotel offers this service or something similar, you won’t have the stress of finding somewhere else to convert your money when you’re out for the day instead of enjoying your trip.
  • Check to see if your hotel requires a keycard on the elevator to access the floors of your hotel. Keycard access ensures that no one can make their way up to your room who isn’t supposed to be there.

Taking all of these precautions when choosing a hotel may seem intimidating or unnecessary, but taking a little due diligence now to check around for important features will save you the trouble of having to worry later about safety during your trip.

Cancún on the Go!

You shouldn’t only be worried about safety at your hotel during spring break in Cancún, though. While your hotel is one of the biggest factors when it comes to safety during a trip, you should always take extra precautions while visiting attractions.

Simple things like investing in a money belt that keeps your money, ID, passport, and any other valuables safe from pickpockets or having things accidentally falling out of a pocket or bag can make a big difference.

As long as you take a few simple safety precautions in booking your trip and while traveling, Cancún, Mexico is the perfect spring-break destination this year without breaking the bank.
